First recording with the new (post-Hawkfest 2003) line-up, this was recently played on HFM radio in the UK.
Brainstorm (3 MB)
Amazingly, this is the first version of Brainstorm we have. Another track by Assassins of Silence.
High Rise (5 MB)
One of our favourite (and apparently best!) live tracks, we've finally got round to recording a studio version of High Rise. Now just wait for the video too...
Magnu (4 MB)
From their 2007 CD 'Elements That Gather Here' with the line-up of Dave Adams, Kevin Perry, James Hodkinson and Carl Pettman.
Master of the Universe (3 MB)
Another track from the early 2005 recording sessions...spot the odd instrumentation in parts and accidental sounds from other Hawkwind tracks.
Moonglum (Live) (5 MB)
Recorded live at 2005's Space Rock Spectacular in Bicester, featuring a certain Mr Huw Lloyd-Langton on lead guitar...
Motorway City (4 MB)
And another one...
Psi Power (4 MB)
From a live performance on BBC Radio (August 2006), this is the acoustic version of the track.
Shouldn't Do That (4 MB)
A live recording from a private party in Wales, August 2005 with the full band (Dave, Kevin, Chris, Joe, Des) all performing.
Spirit of the Age (7 MB)
Yes, another version of Spirit of the Age! Will they never end? This version is by Oxfordshire Hawkwind tribute band Assassins of Silence.
The Demented Man (3 MB)
Recently recorded with the 2005 line-up - Dave Adams (bass/vocals), Kevin Perry (guitar/vocals), Chris Crosskey (synths), Simon Murdoch (drums/vocals). Simon sings on this Dave Brock acoustic number.
You're Only Dreaming (1 MB)
Another recent live number from the Assassins, but this time far mellower than usual...
Captain K
(Holy) Spirit of the Age (2 MB)
I'm not sure whether to thank or blame Sam for suggesting this...
Abducted (1 MB)
And why not..?
Assault and Battery (2 MB)
Bit of a different approach - punky, thrashy...fast and furious.
Damnation Alley (2 MB)
A little bit of fun for a Sunday afternoon - just playing with some new toys...and it turned out pretty good if you ask me!
Dreaming City (3 MB)
This is probably my favourite Hawkwind track, if not my favourite song ever - and I've finally got round to doing a version of it (and it's a bugger to play :-)).
Ejection (4 MB)
With a couple of verses of Aerospaceage Inferno thrown in for good measure.
Fable Of A Failed Race (2 MB)
A little something for the holiday season...
Green Finned Demon (3 MB)
Something very different for a change!
Hassan I Sahba (2 MB)
A completely different style for me - thought I'd give it a go (don't kill me!).
Hurry On Sundown (5 MB)
An Electric Tepee (that's the album, not the contributor of many fine tracks on this page by the way) style version of the first Hawkwind single. Thanks to Claire Milburn for the vocals.
It's So Easy (2 MB)
Yep, it is really, really easy! And short. Not bad for a 50 minute session on a Sunday. Apologies about the vocals though.
Jack of Shadows (3 MB)
What's this? A Hawkwind track with no keyboards!!! Well, it's a new year, so I thought I'd do something different.
Lighthouse (1 MB)
A small teaser for you for a Sunday evening - an unusual arrangement (and a short one too!).
Live Chronic Yule (1 MB)
A not entirely serious track...don't eat it all at once.
Lord of Light (3 MB)
Another one suggested by the wonderful Sam Fitzpatrick who happens to also be managing the Assassins of Silence now...it's a small world!
Lost Johnny (3 MB)
Just having a play with some new (software) toys and ended up playing the Lost Johnny bassline - it's a rough recording, but it's still got one of my favourite lines of any song: 'And Sally buys her underwear from a store where no-one goes..."
Magnu (2 MB)
A quick'n'dirty Magnu for a Sunday afternoon - I really wanted something to practise my solo over (hint - come and watch the Assassins of Silence play!), but decided I may as well do something a little more with it after all.
Moonglum (4 MB)
This is one of my favourite Hawkwind tracks, but I've never got round to recording it until this afternoon. And since we're sadly lacking in HLL pieces anyway, it kills two (amazing steel?) birds with one stone.
Night of the Hawks (3 MB)
Suggested by Sam off the Hawkwind Yahoo mailing list
Psychedelic Warlords (2 MB)
A very quick test of a newly built PC (which worked!) and I needed to make a version available to some friends. Oh, and it's a very apt track in the current political climate...so I'll dedicate it to the Spinmeisters of New Labour.
PXR5 (4 MB)
A 'novel interpretation' I think is the best way of describing this one!
Right To Decide (3 MB)
One of my all-time favourites, I've finally got round to recording it. And before anyone asks, yes, the noise at the end is intentional.
Silver Machine (4 MB)
I guess someone had to do it sooner or later so I thought it had better be me! Not too bad for an afternoon's work...
Sonic Attack (6 MB)
DO NOT PANIC!
Spirit of the Age (3 MB)
Very quick and dirty version of one of my favourite Hawks' tracks - first take on everything.
Sputnik Stan (2 MB)
With a bit of a special treat in the middle (OK, I admit it, I didn't know what to do!).
Wings (1 MB)
Or should I call it Birds? A minimal version of the Space Bandits track, recently played at the 2003 Hawkwind Xmas party.
Children of the Sun
1 - Hurry on Sundown (3 MB)
The intro (which could almost have been written for the Turkish saz) is unfortunately missed here, as the MiniDisc recorder wasn’t switched on due to our hurried setup.
2 - Master of the Universe (6 MB)
This whole set of songs was recorded live at the Exeter Phoenix 18/12/04. Hawkwind were playing there that night, and we were meant to be playing before them in the bar, to entertain the fans with our acoustic renditions of old favourites.
3 - Children of the Sun (6 MB)
Our signature tune for the occasion, complete with dodgy balalaika intro. We thought the lyrics were too good to just sing once, so the whole thing got rather extended.
4 - We Took the Wrong Step Years Ago (3 MB)
Some of the words got mixed up, but then this whole thing was put together with one rehearsal earlier the same day.
5 - D-Rider (5 MB)
Due to unforeseen scheduling changes we ended up playing at the same time as Hawkwind, entertaining the people who couldn’t afford to get into the main auditorium (amusingly, reminding us of Hawkwind's own performance outside the '69 Isle of Wight festival).
6 - Brainstorm (4 MB)
The vocal distortion may have something to do with having had no soundcheck and using karaoke mics hired at the last minute. Any such difficulties were offset by the presence of Captain Steve who came up from Cornwall to play wooden flute, provide backing vocals and twiddle knobs most expertly throughout.
7 - Orgone Accumulator (3 MB)
Pok SpaceGoat plays bass on this one, and Hassan-i-Sabha. For the rest of the set Sufiboy played bass, Prof. Raphael Appleblossom played Turkish saz and/or balalaika, Pok did vocals and played mandola, Henry Drone - the only non-fan amongst us - played reluctant (but supremely competent) percussion.
8 - The Wizard Blew His Horn (2 MB)
A completely spontaneous bit of madness. To fill in the gap whilst Prof. Appleblossom detuned his saz for Hassan-i-Sabha, our friend Banana Tom was provided with the words to this, which he performed flambuoyantly in full shamanic ridiculousness (a bit of a Nik Turner moment).
9 - Hassan-i-Sabha (6 MB)
Our toy xylophone came in handy here. Sufiboy played a dilruba during the intro, but had to give up on it before long due to feedback problems. This set was intended as a bit of a one-off, to celebrate the near-simultaneous coming of Hawkwind and the winter solstice. Normally most of us (minus Pok and Steve) play in a spaced-out improvisational collective called Children of the Drone (www.childrenofthedrone.net).
Craig Gregory
Master of the Universe (3 MB)
A Live Chronicles-esque version to wake you all up on a Sunday morning.
The Right Stuff (3 MB)
Lead guitarist in Modal Logic, Craig's version of The Right Stuff is (quote): slightly different to the Hawks version, but not bad (I'm sure he's doing himself down). Enjoy.
Dan L. Hollifield
Silver Machine (6 MB)
Dan's just submitted an instrumental version of Silver Machine from 'way back' in 1983/1984 - Dan on bass, David Hale on guitar.
dr brown

Gorilla
Flying Doctor (4 MB)
This is one of a bunch of tracks that had been lost (disk crash!) kindly sent to me by Dave Migella.
J Kelvie
Assault & Battery (0 MB)
Another short electronic intro from Mr (I assume!) Kelvie.
Brainstorm (1 MB)
Allegedly featuring a real instrument this time! No Mr Adam this time though...
Down through the Night (2 MB)
The last one. Ever. Yeah! The alledged instrument returns. Gasp!
Magnu (1 MB)
He's cranking them out this weekend - another short and sweet intro from Mr (confirmed!) Kelvie. 'A sort of drum and bass type thing' as he says.
Master of the Universe (0 MB)
Not much information about this one, apart from it being recorded in Fruity Loops. Enjoy anyway!
Sonic Attack (2 MB)
One of the oddest versions of any Hawkwind track I think I've ever heard - by 'Mr Adam' and James.
Jasret & Electric Tepee
Arrival In Utopia (4 MB)
Another enhancement of an Electric Tepee recording. This version adds processed vocals (3-part harmonies on the chorus), a couple of 2-3-note-chord keyboard bits, a bass riff on the hook, the Utopia 2001 recitation, and two passes of Wiard modular analog synthesizer noises. Collaboration is good!
Katpurz & Electric Tepee
Angels of Death (2 MB)
(Done w/o Electric Tepee's knowledge)...I downloaded his track (above) and quickly added these vocals. It cleverly slips into a surprize ending.. (ET-we should try this! heh heh)
Katpurz (solo effort)
Children of the Sun (2 MB)
My first recorded song ever. A totaly reworked version with bits of 'Time We Left' thrown in... Demo tape quality, but one hell of a reworking!!
Damage Of Life (3 MB)
Recorded in March of 2000, a pretty simple straightforward version..(early recording for me)
Heads/Golden Void (5 MB)
2/21 Recorded over a 3 day period, it's not completely done (some bass fills and guitar solo to come)..but the vocals at the end of GOLDEN VOID are completely trippy..Seriously seriously seriously psychedelic!!!
L.S.D. (...the father of) (4 MB)
Words: Hawkwind & Albert Hoffman, a lesson in how a little creativity can make up for what you dont know how to play.. :)
Spirit of the Age (3 MB)
My 2nd song ever recorded. The synth part is "off beat" and I've since lost the original recording, so it can't be fixed...this is all that exists..(sniff sniff)
Kris Clayton
Iron Dream (3 MB)
A very different choice, but excellently done!
Liquorball
Shouldn't Do That (4 MB)
This is one of a bunch of tracks that had been lost (disk crash!) kindly sent to me by Dave Migella.
magic cat
the watcher (4 MB)
an electric version this time!

This is one of a bunch of tracks that had been lost (disk crash!) kindly sent to me by Dave Migella.
Puff Tube
Quark, Strangeness and Charm (3 MB)
This is one of a bunch of tracks that had been lost (disk crash!) kindly sent to me by Dave Migella.
R2 Project
Age of the Microman (4 MB)
An unexpected track (well, knowing Andy, not that unexpected :-)) - as he says 'I was kinda of inspired by a recent 25th anniversary that ws all over the papers a couple of week backs'.
Awakening (1 MB)
An unusual choice to cover, but excellently done!
Infinity (3 MB)
Wow! I think this really captures the feel of the original and brings it up to date.
Master of the Universe (3 MB)
Very interesting version of Master of the Universe - no real instruments were harmed during the making of this song!
Shouldn't Do That (5 MB)
2004 seems to be the year for dance versions of tracks...here's another one for you all.
Spirit of the Age (5 MB)
Another version of Spirit of the Age - try listening to the opening bars on headphones!
Rubycon
High Rise (5 MB)
An amazing version true to the original spirit of the song
Silver Machine
Angels of Death (1 MB)
Possibly the only Hawkwind cover band in the UK? Who cares...Silver Machine are good...
Sloterdijk
Sonic Attack (5 MB)
It's been a while since we've had some new tunes here, but we always seem to get plenty round the solstice. This is a live version from May 2003.

The results of an extended Solstice collaboration...yes, it's another version of D Rider, but why not? It's a great song!
Triskelion Under Power
Hurry on Sundown (4 MB)
This one's from our demo cd
Urbis
25 Years (3 MB)
This was recorded at Manchester University Students' Union (the recording quality is what you might expect for the time - alas). The tape has lain in Tom's rack for the last 25 years - somewhat appropriate!
Voco Kesh
We Took The Wrong Step Years Ago (7 MB)
This is one of a bunch of tracks that had been lost (disk crash!) kindly sent to me by Dave Migella.
Windwizard
Curse of Man (5 MB)
Probably not the most well-known of Hawkwind tunes, but one that probably ought to be. This is John-Paul's first attempt at a cover; in his own words 'done using cakewalk, soundfonts, guitar and my dodgy singing(no worse than niks though imho)'
ZoroFaster
Born to Go (1 MB)
Or rather "Born to Go Faster"...dreadful pun, great tune!
Lighthouse (2 MB)
He's back again, this time with an old (1992) recording of Lighthouse - with Pieter Joop, Gern Huijberts aka Wageningen Utility Kitchen. From the cd: 'Boo for Buddah's Motorcycle Club Crash Awards'.
Space Is Deep (5 MB)
This is awesome - a brilliantly original take on the track. Full credits: covered by ZoroFaster (i.c.w. Matthew Winpenny, Pieter Joop, Ton van Dormont) aka Banana Republic Internet Sabotage. From the adventured cd: 'Astral flakes and flab voyages'.
Space is Deep (reprise) (2 MB)
Oh yes, part 2. covered by ZoroFaster (i.c.w. Matthew Winpenny, Pieter Joop, Ton van Dortmont) aka Banana Republic Internet Sabotage. From the cd: 'Astral flakes and flab voyages'.

Uncle Sam's On Mars (4 MB)
Yes, he's on Mars again! This is the deep bass version, covered by ZoroFaster (with Dreadzone, Pieter Joop, Ton van Dortmont). From the CD 'Astral flakes and flab voyages' (what a great name!).
